The sinuses are air-filled spaces within the bones of the face. They are in the cheeks, forehead, and around the eyes.

Sinusitis is an infection of the nasal sinuses and occurs when there is an undrained collection of fluid within these cavities. This leads to a build-up causing pressure and pain and can cause mild to significant discomfort and various symptoms depending on the person.

Most people have experienced acute sinusitis with a cold or flu; however, the symptoms should resolve within a few days to 2 weeks. Chronic sinusitis is when sinuses become inflamed and remain swollen for several weeks, despite treatment attempts.
